*Please note that accident reports are not available until 7-10 business days after an accident. To obtain an accident report an OPEN RECORDS REQUEST FORM must be filled out and submitted to the Police Department and a $6.00 fee must be paid to City Hall. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Police Department.





Police Officers are under general supervision, are responsible for providing police protection to the citizens and business of the City of George West. Applicants must be able to pass a background investigation, and interview board. Successful applicants will be given a conditional offer of employment contingent on passing a Medical, Psychological, and Polygraph exams.



  • Provides police protection and security for the general public.
  • Controls and directs traffic, issues citations for traffic violations, city ordinances, or parking violations. Issues misdemeanor citations.
  • Initiates arrests, when appropriate, in response to Federal, 
    State, and local laws and city ordinances.
  • Responds to all emergency situations.
  • Prepares and submits required reports on incidents, accidents, 
    and offenses.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as 



  • Graduation from high school: or
  • General Education Development (GED) Certificate with a minimum 12 college hours.



  • Experience as a Peace Officer. 
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony 
    Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • At the time of application, applicants must possess a current and unrestricted Texas Peace Officer's license (certification) issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE), or be immediately licensable by TCOLE upon appointment.


  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and city 
  • Knowledge of law enforcement techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in use of police vehicles and modern law enforcement firearms, 
    weapons, and specialized equipment.
  • Ability to respond rapidly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective, and 
    reasonable courses of action.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with 
    co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position.







Physical requirements include frequently lifting/carrying 50 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; and eye coordination and manual dexterity to handle firearms and modern police equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, running, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions, hostile people, and emergency situations.
